    In Short
The first U.S. branch of the YMCA started in Boston in 1851; there are now more than 2,500 locations nationwide, making it the country's largest nonprofit community service program. Each YMCA reflects the community it's in, offering differing services based on the area. Most include fitness areas with aerobic equipment, classes and racquetball and tennis courts. Many also have day care and after-school programs, as well as summer day camps.

This YMCA( Abilene Texas-Redbud).I had a great experience there and wanted to share. The front desk staff here are WONDERFUL, they answer every question with a smile and are very informative. . The cardio room at this YMCA is great, equipped with great equipment and plenty of them, so no waiting in line for the one you want. The building is kept very clean and you always are greated with smiles, even from people who are not working at the front desk. This ymca also offers karate,soccer,softball,t-ball , step aerobics, yoga, cycling.THis ymca has it all. The prices are ve

The childcare is adequate, and the facilities are good, but the cost to be a member makes only those who make a lot of money or no money at all (they qualify for 'financial aid' ) able to join. The people who work in the Redbud YMCA are nice people. They smile and joke with you. The women's dressing rooms are clean and the lockers are functional. The cardio room has a good eclectic blend of machines: 2 types of stair machines, bikes, treadmil, rowing, and elliptical. The weight room has several machines for each muscle group. There are also racket ball courts, indoor walking track, basketball courts, aerobics, and I think they started a Yoga class. They have an olympic sized pool and several different water aerobics classes at different times of the day. They keep lanes roped off all day for swimming laps if thats what you are into, and they also have a seperate shallow 'walking' pool. There are sauna's and
