    Tips

    • When to Go
All the big names in Boston's art scene come to the openings--and all the art students show up on Thursday evenings, when the admission fee is waived after 5pm.
    • The Extras
The ICA's Water Cafe, open until 11pm Thursdays and Fridays in the summer, features a grill menu, specialty bar drinks, and outdoor seating overlooking Boston Harbor.
Boston's primary space to see modern art is housed in a breathtaking glass structure on the waterfont.

The ICA, founded in 1936, champions emerging artists from across the world, and its collection includes sculptures, paintings, videos, photography and drawings in addition to works by contemporary artists like Nan Goldin and Kai Althoff. Regularly scheduled performances, films, and tours complement the galleries. The building itself, with its top floor gallery jutting out over the water, is as contemporary and thought-provoking as the art housed within. Stunning views of the harbor and skyline and an outdoor public space below offer a full experience to appreciate visual art and the beauty of Boston.

I recently visited he ICA to view the Shepard Fairey exhibit. The exhibit was easy to navigate and take in. Located right on the water, the view of the harbor from the ICA is amazing...I can't wait to go back on a sunny summer day.
