Every summer, Boston's oldest resident theater company, the Publick Theatre, mounts its theater-under-the-stars productions at Christian Herter Park in Brighton. Musicals and Shakespeare are the mainstays.

The riverfront amphitheater is on an island of sorts, surrounded by a man-made moat. Wooden benches outline stadium seating (cushions are available) to accommodate 225. The theater supplies bug spray but you may want to bring pillows and blankets. The park is heavily used in summer--especially by mosquitoes who linger in the backwaters of the Charles.
